Welcome to the Visual Art Program. My name is Myriam M. Amaro-Lawrence.
I 've been teaching art here at Parkside since 2000. I am native of Puerto Rico. I received my BFA in Art Education at the University of Puerto Rico. I began teaching art class at the School of Visual Art program for gifted art students, in San Juan Puerto Rico. I obtain a Master Degree in Fine Arts Arts from the Maryland Institute College of Art, Baltimore Maryland. I also, taught Art in Baltimore City Public Schools for several years, following along with teaching at the Art Education Department of Middle Tenessee State University, Murfreesboro Tennessee. I am a practicing artist, my inspirational themes for drawing and painting comes from nature, flowers and landscape ect. .I have a high interest in the art of calligraphy. I enjoy teaching and introducing students to the many facets of art, guiding and developing the students interests and growth in the visual arts. As a teacher I encourage all my art students to do their best and use their creative imagination and skills in a discipline manner with emphasis on best behavior and respect to self and others. My husband, ProF. James T. Lawrence a retired art professor and praticing artist. We have a pet cockatiel bird named Pretty Bird. We enjoy traveling, visiting art galleries and museums, photography and creating art. I am a member of the National Art Education Association and Virginia Art Education Association .
